28 January 2011 SPS and 4NRg success announced in EDP

Eight designs have been shortlisted in the Energy Innovation Awards, organised by industry body the East of England Energy Group, from companies representing nearly every aspect of the industry.

The finalists include 4NRG, based at OrbisEnergy, Lowestoft, which has developed a coastal protection and energy generation device using tidal and wave power, and Scour Prevention Systems, also from OrbisEnergy, for a system for protecting offshore wind turbines from scour using mats made of linked car tyres on the seabed.

CHPV, of Lowestoft, has been selected after developing a miniature HD camera to revolutionise aspects of health and safety in the sector, along with Hethel-based Active Technologies, for a multi-task integrated PIC controller, and Gorleston-based GEV Offshore for Oxifree, an application of heated polymeric resin designed to protect metals.

The other finalists are the Energy Skills Foundation Programme, a course designed to attract more people into the sector, delivered by Lowestoft College and supported by Great Yarmouth Borough Council, Luton-based eTRV, for an intelligent heating control system, and Trans-Rak International, of Warwick, which has developed a container rack system to improve handling of pipe, piles and tubular sections for the oil and gas sector.

The competition takes place from 2 to 5pm on February 23 at the Holiday Inn near Norwich International Airport, and is free to attend for businesses who can see the ideas and vote for their favourites.

The winners will be announced at a ticket-only gala dinner the same evening.
